Robert Kotler, MD, FACS has practiced in the Beverly Hills area for 31 years and performs cosmetic surgery of the face and neck exclusively. A son of Chicago, Dr. Kotler attended the University of Wisconsin and Northwestern University Medical School. He trained in general surgery in Chicago at the world famous Cook County Hospital Medical Center, at that time the largest single hospital center in the world. Specialty training in surgery of the face such as revision rhinoplasty, head and neck was served at multiple institutions in Chicago including the Northwestern University Hospitals and University of Illinois Hospitals. These included Cook County Hospital and Children's Memorial Hospital of Chicago. Following completion of his residency training, Dr. Kotler was board certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery, the certifying board for those who limit their practices to the face, head and neck.
Dr. Kotler's military career spans eight years. Initially he was a captain in the US Army Reserves. In July 1973, Dr. Kotler went on active duty and was promoted to major. He was Chief of Head and Neck Surgery at the United States DeWitt Army Hospital, a military teaching hospital in Fort Belvoir, Virginia. At that post he was also consultant and residency program instructor at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington, DC.
Following discharge from the military, Dr. Kotler pursued additional postgraduate study. He served a fellowship - a period of preceptorship and apprenticeship - under one of America's most famed facial cosmetic surgeons, Morey Parkes, in Los Angeles. This fellowship was sponsored by the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
Dr. Kotler founded the Cosmetic Surgery Specialists Medical Group of Beverly Hills. He continues his interest in teaching and education as Clinical Instructor in the Division of Head and Neck Surgery, Department of Surgery, UCLA Center for the Health Sciences, West Los Angeles, California. He is a Consultant and Attending Surgeon at the West Los Angeles Veterans Medical Center. Dr. Kotler has served the State of California as Commissioner and Regional Consultant to the Medical Board of California. He has also been consultant to both the City of Los Angeles and the County of Los Angeles.
Dr. Kotler is a popular lecturer and author. His first book, a consumer-oriented guide book was entitled, A Consumer's Guide Book to Cosmetic Facial Surgery. His medical textbook, for cosmetic surgeons and dermatologists, Chemical Rejuvenation of the Face, is used by physicians worldwide.
Dr. Kotler's two most recent books were written for the public. Secrets of a Beverly Hills Cosmetic Surgeon, the Expert's Guide to Safe Successful Surgery and The Essential Cosmetic Surgery Companion, Don't Consult a Cosmetic Surgeon Without This Book are both category best-sellers within the arena of self-improvement books.
Long seen as a responsible and honored spokesperson for cosmetic surgeons, Dr. Kotler has been interviewed by many national and local media sources. He has been a guest on Oprah, CNN, Fox News, CBS News and ABC News. He has been interviewed by Time, Self, Newsweek, Allure, Los Angeles Magazine, W Magazine, Los Angeles Times, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Parade and USA Today among others.
Dr. Kotler is recognized by many television viewers as being one of the original members of the cosmetic surgeon ensemble on the five-season hit, TV reality program - Dr. 90210. Dr. Kotler was seen by the public as a reliable, mature and responsible practitioner who brought much wisdom and clarification to the program viewers.
